Recent satellite images indicate that China is building a new fleet of specialized barges for amphibious assaults, which could be used in potential operations against Taiwan. With this move, China is expanding its military options and complicating Taiwan’s defense. This action not only signals China’s military preparedness but also sends a clear message to the United States: any economic warfare could be met with a military response.
While Donald Trump has threatened to escalate economic pressures against China upon returning to the White House, Beijing is strengthening its military capabilities to demonstrate that real preparedness is the best form of deterrence. Just as Iran nullified the threat of U.S. sanctions in the 2010s by increasing domestic gasoline production, China is attempting to show that it is ready to counter any economic pressure from Washington through the construction of these barges.
