At a meeting with representatives of Iranian think tanks hosted by KHANA on July 2026, Cong peiwu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Iran, reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Iran. The event also marked the launch of the Chinese-language website of KHANA, highlighting growing people-to-people and think tank engagement between the two countries.
Describing Iran and China as two ancient civilizations with rich cultural heritage, the ambassador stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation amid an increasingly uncertain international environment. He pointed to China’s stable economic growth in 2024–2025, emphasizing Beijing’s development model based on self-reliance and openness while highlighting the opportunities offered by China’s large market.
China-Iran Strategic Partnership and Regional Cooperation
On regional affairs, Cong peiwu reiterated China’s support for Iran’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security. He underscored Beijing’s preference for diplomacy over military confrontation, condemned actions that escalate regional tensions, and recalled China’s peace initiatives aimed at promoting stability in the Middle East. Referring to China’s cautious use of its veto power at the UN Security Council, he described Beijing’s position on the Strait of Hormuz as reflecting its broader commitment to regional security and conflict prevention.
The ambassador also expressed China’s readiness to facilitate dialogue between Iran and regional states, provided that all parties are willing to engage. Concluding his remarks, he noted that 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Iran and China and expressed confidence that expanding think tank exchanges, alongside economic and cultural cooperation, will further strengthen the long-term partnership between the two countries.
