The History of the Emergence, Expansion, and Decline of the Welfare State in the World, Its Current Status, and an Examination of the Views of Its Supporters and Opponents
Abstract
The welfare state is a form of government in which the state or a group of established social institutions provides basic economic security for its citizens. While it is true that the government is almost never the most cost-effective entity to deliver such programs, it is the only organization that can potentially care for all of its citizens without having to do so as part of another agenda. Managing a welfare state is filled with challenges, but governing a country where a large portion of the population struggles to obtain food, education, and necessary care to improve their personal situation is also difficult.
