A Study of the Status of Environmental Governance in Iran, and an Examination of the Role of Governments in Managing Environmental Crises through the Analysis of Good Governance Indicators
Abstract
Given the importance of environmental issues, the goal-setting of countries is primarily focused on simultaneously achieving economic objectives and preventing environmental degradation. Therefore, governmental management seeks to find a balance between rational management and the realization of public interests. Environmental governance is not synonymous with sustainable development. Sustainable development encompasses three essential components: economic growth, social justice, and environmental protection, whereas governance involves garnering the participation of all relevant institutions and actors in the policy-making process. Hence, neglecting environmental challenges imposes irreparable costs on various sectors of society.
