Land Grabbing: Gaps, Challenges, and Solutions

Conceptualization of Land Grabbing, Identifying its Occurrence Grounds in the Country, and Studying Cadastre as a Solution to Combat Land Grabbing

Abstract

Undoubtedly, land is a crucial factor of production in many economic activities such as agriculture, trade, industry, and residential construction. Land ownership is also considered an important source of social power and personal wealth. The most explicit form of land and property encroachment is illegal occupation. The increase in illegal occupation of public and state lands and properties has cast a shadow of uncertainty over the existing laws and legal actions to address this issue. If the fight against land grabbing is not seriously and effectively controlled, it will leave destructive and uncontrollable effects on the economy, particularly in the housing sector, which are not easily solvable.

In this article, the concept of land grabbing and the identification of its occurrence grounds in the country are explained. Additionally, the most common forms of land grabbing are described, and the solution to combat this phenomenon, which is Cadastre (land registration), along with practical solutions, is introduced.
