Examining China’s Development-Oriented Security Policies in West Asia

Abstract

China should be considered a new actor in the West Asia. China, as a new actor in West Asia, has expanded its role based on the principles of shared development, multilateralism, and win-win cooperation.” Its relations with Arab countries, particularly within the framework of the “China’s Policy Paper on the Arab World,” encompass political, trade, and technological cooperation, along with significant investments in energy and infrastructure.

At the same time, China has avoided direct involvement in the region’s security issues and has emphasized its “development for stability” strategy. This approach is evident in its stance on crises such as Syria and Gaza, where Beijing has prioritized diplomatic solutions. However, China has been strengthening its military cooperation with some regional countries, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which could impact its security role in the future.

By emphasizing its commitment to multilateralism and full respect for national sovereignty, China has positioned itself as a trusted partner for West Asian countries which can facilitate a mutually beneficial path to development for both China and the region.
