Study of Economic Resilience Experiences in Selected and Leading Countries in This Field
Abstract
Economy is considered one of the strategic and key tools for building national power and security, especially for developing countries. Examining the experiences of economic resilience in various countries around the world shows that the theory of resilient economy is a proven and scientific model that has been a concern for other nations as well. Therefore, studying the experiences of these countries can, first, contribute to the discourse surrounding this theory in the academic and scientific space, and second, create the groundwork for implementing actions and utilizing the practical experiences and policies of other countries to reform Iran’s economy.
The Concept and Core of a Resilient Economy
A resilient economy combines internal strength with proactive and defensive strategies to withstand shocks and turn threats into opportunities, ensuring stability and long-term growth.
Experiences of Economic Resilience Around the World
UK: Supported domestic industries during its early industrial rise, delaying free trade until achieving technological superiority. Protectionism enhanced competitiveness through export-driven innovation.
USA: For over a century, supported national production and invested heavily in R&D and STEM. Reduced oil dependency via energy diversification and efficiency. Focused on self-reliance and a knowledge-based economy.
Russia: Post-Soviet growth driven by strategic use of oil and gas revenues, industrial investment, and financial reforms. Emphasized national production, infrastructure, and human capital to boost economic strength.
Iran’s Economic Resilience Experience
Iran’s approach to economic resilience is rooted in Islamic principles promoted by religious leaders since the Constitutional era. Key foundations include:
- Self-reliance and support for domestic production
- Rejection of foreign domination (Nafy-e Sabil)
- Cultural independence from Western lifestyles
- Utilizing internal resources to strengthen the national economy
These values have guided efforts to resist economic dependency and promote a strong, self-sufficient Iranian economy.
