Iran’s Entry into Neural Technologies

A Review of Global Brain Research Initiatives and a Proposed Framework for Iran’s Entry into the Field of Neural Technologies

Abstract

By understanding the human brain, we can gain a fundamental insight into the nature of humanity, develop new treatments for brain-related disorders, and create revolutionary advances in information and communication technologies (ICT). In recent years, the United States, China, and Europe have launched large-scale, ambitious projects aimed at better understanding brain function and advancing related technologies, backed by substantial funding.

The international competition in the field of neuroscience not only contributes to scientific progress but also has profound implications for national and international policy-making. The Islamic Republic of Iran can also enter this field by leveraging the experiences of these countries and potentially become one of the leading nations in this area in the coming years.

In this article you also read about:

The national neural  study projects: Brain Initiative, China’s “Brain-Inspired AI” Project, European Union Human Brain Project.

Proposed frameworks for Iran:

1.The acceleration of neuroscience must be taken seriously;

 2.The brain is far from the market, and there should be no rush,

 3.The epistemological challenge must be taken seriously but should not become political.

This study was conducted at International Relations Think Tank analysis network in collaboration with Amin Ramezani Korghand and Ali Afshari Mehr in 2023.
