The review of 9 researches from 9 Iranian think tanks shows the legal, political, economic and social axes in the country which lead to strong and security protests in the country.
Freedom of Assembly and Challenges to Protests
Under the title “Challenges Facing Protests in the Islamic Republic of Iran“, Human and Citizenship Rights Think tank has examined the government’s commitment to guaranteeing freedom of assembly within the framework of Article 27 of the Constitution and proposed a solution.
Restrictions on Freedom of Assembly
Restrictions and conditions for the implementation of the freedom of assembly are explained in the three axes of “permission and notification”, “not disturbing the fundamentals of Islam” and “not carrying weapons”.
With the stipulation that “the principle is freedom”, and “the application of restrictions is exceptional” and requires a reason, and restrictions should not be used as a principle in drafting laws nationwide.
The Roots of Protests in Iran
In the research “Dissatisfaction and Social Protests in Iran”, Sharh Think Tank has studied the pathology of the current situation of protests in Iran.
In this study, the gaps leading to protest in Iran are counted around ten indicators: spirituality, justice, rationality, province-republic, freedom, independence, security, dignity, social health and identity and lifestyle.
Problems that Lead to Dissatisfaction and Opportunities to Solve Them
By comparing the current and desired situation of these ten axes, two problems and one opportunity have been identified:
The first problem is “economic, social and political dissatisfaction” which is related to the indicators of justice and the social sector of security;
The second problem is “dissatisfaction and cultural incompatibility” which refers to the indicators of spirituality and the cultural dimension of freedom;
And the created opportunity is “maximum national, security and human cohesion” in the society, which monitors the indicators of security, independence, dignity and identity.
What are the Main Reasons and Roots of Protests in Iran?
Also, this research has enumerated the four causes of protests, including:
- Social dissatisfaction with governance inefficiency
- The cultural identity gap between Islam and secularism and civilizational confrontation and civilizational confrontation and internal hypocrisy
- Media disorder, virtual war and celebrity culture;
- Security attack and enemy exploitation.
Recommended Strategies to Avoid Future Complaints
- Solving the problem instead of ignoring the problem
- Macro and fundamental transformation instead of partial and minor reforms
- Focusing on the transformation of reality instead of distorting the narrative and mentality.
